How to Keep Your Car Cool When Parked

Finding a parking lot with nice, shady trees will help keep your car cool

Keeping a car cool is a problem for many drivers, especially when it’s sitting in a parking lot or driveway under the hot summer sun. Unfortunately, there isn’t a sure fire way to keep your car comfortably cool in hot weather but there are ways to cool it off. Here are a few ways to help keep your car cool when parked.

  • Shade – One of the more obvious solutions to keep your car cool, shaded parking isn’t hard to find but finding an open spot can be. Many shaded parking areas are located at the edge of the lot, a good distance from buildings. If you plan on staying for a while, it may be worth the walk.
  • Windows – Cracking the windows is one of the simplest ways to cool off your car on hot days. To avoid robberies and strangers snooping in your car, a crack is probably as far as you’ll want to go. Some drivers who trust their city or neighborhood (or who just don’t have anything they don’t want to lose) could roll their windows the entire way down.
  • Vents – By switching your air conditioning settings to fresh air and closing the dashboard vents, drivers can effectively cool their vehicle much quicker upon entry. Make sure the windows are down as the cooler air will push the hot air up and out!
